Back to Black

Party season is truly upon us, and once again the shops are full of outfits for every occasion. As you stumble through Christmas parties, family gatherings and New Year’s celebrations, there is one thing you can always rely on is…black.
A classic shade that can be worn in so many ways – some opt for the faithful LBD to get them through and others brave the very current black jumpsuit to make a statement. It isn’t hard to find that piece of black clothing that will match your needs this season, as the shops are full of a variety of outfits – both high street and designer. No matter what you decide, you can always rely on the staple that is black to get you safely into the next season with style and aplomb.
The Little Black Dress (known fondly as the LBD) is something every woman should own at least one of. It suits any circumstance and can be dressed up or down, and teamed with a multitude of accessories and additional items of clothing so that anyone can wear it and feel comfortable yet stylish. There are endless styles of LBDs out there, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find one that matches your personality or your price range.
Parties aren’t the only instance that you can effortlessly adhere to the monochrome fashion style, as there are key black pieces galore for work as well as play. It is a chic and simple way to smarten your work wardrobe, no matter your job, and can suit so many occasions and take you smoothly from day to night. You can try this with a tailored trouser, a classic suit, a simple black shirt or even a black skirt, and can change it up by mixing your accessories or cardigans to transform the look each time.
Accessories are a great way to introduce black into your everyday wardrobe – chunky necklaces add to any simple outfit, and a little black clutch or oversized black bag are perfect for all you bits and pieces. Every fashion lover knows that a pair of killer black heels can change any outfit from something simple to a knockout statement, transforming you into the most confident person in the room. A good pair of black heels can last you for years (if you treat them well and don’t skimp on the quality!) and can be worn with anything.
Black is the staple of any respectable wardrobe and can create a classic silhouette – think Audrey Hepburn in ‘Breakfast at Tiffanys’ –or can suit an edgier look for you trendy lot. It can adapt to gothic, rock chick, smart, dressy, casual; this shade is the epitome of versatility.
It is the perfect winter colour for overall pieces such as dresses or coats, or it can accentuate an outfit through your accessories and footwear. But there is no need to think that when Spring rolls around your black pieces need to be put into storage – if done correctly it can take you effortlessly into the warmer months.
Teaming a light or bright coloured outfit with black jewellery or an understated handbag is the perfect way to take darker sections of your wardrobe across the seasons. So no matter what the season or your mood, black is back…and hopefully here to stay.
